$70M Verdict Against Baby Formula Manufacturer
An Illinois jury has ordered Abbott Laboratories to pay $70 million, including $17 million in punitive damages, to four families who say its baby formula caused their premature infants to develop necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), a life-threatening intestinal disease.
“This verdict reveals the truth that Abbott hid from the public: cow’s-milk based baby formula causes NEC in premature infants,” said Olson Grimsley partner Sean Grimsley.
Congratulations to the trial team, which included partners Sean Grimsley, Kenzo Kawanabe, Abigail Hinchcliff, and Samara Hoose. Beth Costner and Nicole Hollingsworth were also members of the trial team.
